Karachi is dealing with a worrying rise in HIV cases, especially among kids. At least 17 children have tested positive at Valika Hospital in SITE Town, with two sadly passing away. The outbreak’s linked to alleged syringe reuse and poor infection control.
Authorities are on the case, investigating and deploying screening teams. The Sindh AIDS Control Programme is stepping up efforts with screenings and awareness sessions, while affected kids get referred to specialized care.
Health experts are concerned the numbers could be higher due to testing kit shortages and weak surveillance. Pakistan’s seeing a big jump in HIV cases, with over 10,000 infections this year alone.
